If you are getting set up to have Horses on a farm, you may not realize that there are different styles of horse fencing available for you to choose from. Knowing what these different kinds are and what the pros and cons of each are as well can help you make the right decision to keep your horses healthy and safe.

One style of fencing that you can choose from is a wooden Horse Fence. These can be attractive but they will need upkeep. You also need to keep in mind that wooden horse fencing will usually be chewed on by the horses. This means that you need to finish them with things which will not hurt the horse if they are injested. You want to make sure that your horse fencing is high enough as well that the horses cannot jump over them.

It is equally important to know what kind of fencing you should not purchase. There is also PVC fencing which may look as though it can be used for horses. It looks a lot like wooden fencing in that there are PVC boards attached to fence posts. Because it is PVC, it does not need to be sanded or painted. Because it looks like wooden fencing, many people may try to use it for their horses but the fact is that it should not be used for Livestock or horses.

If you do not want to go with wooden horse fencing there is an excellent product on the market that is versatile enough to be used with different breeds of horse. Flex-fence is made of wire that can be coated or uncoated. The wire passes through a polyethylene rail. There are different styles of flex-fence horse fencing that you can select from. It depends on the size of horse or the kind of livestock that will be contained by the fence. If you are picking horse fencing for large horses, you will want rails that are supported by three wires. Smaller horses or animals can get away with rails that are supported by two wires.

You will rapidly find which style of fencing you prefer to use and which works best for the horses you are keeping. Horse fencing is more than just esthetic, it keeps the horses safe from wandering or from injury. Because you care for your horses as friends as well as animals it is important that you find what works best for you.

What type of horse fencing and run-in do you like the best? PLEASE HELP!?

Ok, we have small property and we are going to put in a fence and run-in very soon. Something that isn’t very expensive. What kind of fence do you have that you like. We are going to try to get two thoroughbreds. We were looking at run-in sheds with stalls and an over hang. What do you recommend? And PLEASE include the site where you got it from. Thanks so much!!!!

The BEST and can probably be had cheapest is old telephone poles. You can contact your phone company and see when and where they would possibly have any for sale. They have no sharp edges and hold up for DECADES. They make awesome round pens too!

I’m looking for horse hay feeder solutions:?

I own several horses, have some pasture but feed my horses hay twice a day in their individual stalls, which are 24 x 16 with partial enclosure. I have been upgrading my Stable and testing various hay feeders. So far no matter what I use the horses learn to throw their hay out of the feeders to get those tender alfalfa flakes. I have tried various racks and tubs. They have taught me that things sitting on the ground is more natural and healthier for them but I don’t want to feed directly on the ground to avoid waste and any sand colic. Any ideas?

All you can do is throw matts down and feed on them.. Horses are intented to eat in a head down position. Eating above that causes junk to get in their nose and eyes…. Alot of people will use ag bins, http://www.boomerangproducts.com/images/applications/images/Bulk-Ag-Bins-in-use.jpg
Some will take pieces of wood and cover the corners to prevent the horse from using the corner to push the hay out… or you can just use sand clear.
Another effective use of feeding beet pulp daily is that it helps sand get pushed through..

Has anyone tried the new…?

Rythmn bells/beads? Looks like a necklace for a horse.
What do you think of them, do they help?
Some are feathers & shells. I see them on Ebay from Australia. Suppose to have a calming effect on Horses like the old sleigh bells of years ago.

I’ve seen some at a horse convention. I haven’t tried any, but they were so pretty. I’ve heard that rhythm and music makes a horse relax. That’s how we work with some horses.

When we find a horse that has a fear of something that makes a noise, we make is make the noise in a steady rhythm until the horse expects what’s coming. Also a nice rhythm in gaits relaxes horses. Maybe the bells would calm a horse down, at least if the weren’t scared of them!
