Famous horse – Part Two Best Mate
This article is the second of a two-part article that looks at the race for Best Mate Perhaps one of the best racehorses ever National Hunt ever.
We recall that the first part of this record finished article to look better Mate 14 wins in 22 starts and finished seven seconds amazing place.
The only time I Best Mate did not finish first or second in a race was in his last race, and it was a sad occasion for everyone involved in horse racing.
Tragedy for Best Mate
Well, running 22 of his career is that I prefer to forget (with all the lovers of horse racing public) as was the race where unfortunately Best Mate lost life.
The only consolation is that he died doing something he loved, and showed the courage of the horse.
It is known to have a big heart, a horse to be generous and give 100 percent. The tragedy occurred at Exeter Racecourse of November 1, 2005, during the career of William Hill Haldon Gold Cup
Jockey Paul Carberry knew back part of the course, the horse was not quite right, and as a precaution took the horse (retired from the race). However, in negotiating a way out of the race track, Best Mate collapsed and, although veterinarians fought as hard as they can to resuscitate died moments later.
A true star
But in the end he did what he loved and what he has done everything possible. It is a sad reality we all go one day, but just at the end did what he did very well.
A measure of how much he is respected in the horse racing fraternity is the fact which has a bronze statue of Cheltenham Racecourse, where his three consecutive victories in the Gold Cup is an achievement that may never happen again my life.
